To get the nutritional benefits of these seeds, they have to be consumed along with good fat and hence most traditional recipes which include aliv/ haleem seeds with include coconut and ghee.

These are very easy to make but the aliv seeds need to be soaked for a few hours. The quantity of jaggery in the recipe can be adjusted to your taste.

Ingredients:

  1. Coconut one small grated
  2. Aliv half cup
  3. Jaggery 2 cups
  4. Coconut water 1.5 cups
  5. Nutmeg powder 1/2 tsp (optional)

Method:

Soak the aliv seeds with one and a half cup coconut water for 2 hours.

Mix the grated coconut and grated jaggery to the soaked aliv and leave for half an hour to one hour.

Heat a thick bottom pan and cook the mixture of aliv till it is nicely cooked and dry. Should take around 8-10 mins on low to medium flame. When dry switch the gas off and let it cool.

When cooled, add the nutmeg powder (optional) make medium sized ladoos.

The mixture remains soft and doesn’t get hard. For this quantity u will get around 18- 20 ladoos.

Store them in the refrigerator.

Notes:

If you are grating the coconut at home then keep the coconut water and use it to soak the aliv. If not then use tender coconut water for soaking the aliv.

The addition of nutmeg powder gives the ladoos a very mild and earthy fragrance. In case you do not like the nutmeg flavour then you can substitute it by elaichi/ cardamon powder or skip it.

These are super nutritious and healthy ladoos and you can eat one everyday.

When refrigerated they stay well for 7-8 days.
